The Little Stone Church from Quilt in Progress

I managed to finish another block. This one was fairly simple and I didn’t have too many mistakes. I knew I wanted to put the stone print fabric to good use, even though I wish it had been smaller stones and more of an orangey color.

You can see the outlines where I’ve drawn with black marker. It helps me to see the shapes and the scale.

I used a white fabric for the sky, since this photo was taken on an overcast winter day. I found a leftover bit of sparkly white (angel costume, could you guess ...

Not my best work… from Quilt in Progress

I see that I made a few mistakes. To begin with, I knew the green I used for background was too thin, but I didn’t heed my warning. The end result is a few wrinkles that will stay there. Oh well.

covered bridge

I chose a different photo of the same bridge in Ionia, Michigan. Lots of green, much better than trying to create fall leaves in fabric. This time, I made sure to work background-to-foreground, it works out much better that way. First I notice that the top 2/3 is green, except for a peek of the ...

Stalled from Quilt in Progress

I wanted to keep up the pace I set for myself, but something didn’t work as I thought it would, and that killed the momentum. Let me show you.

Fallasburg covered bridge

The photo is of the Fallasburg Park covered bridge in Lowell, Michigan. I have been across this bridge, and also the other that I will include in the quilt. I loved the autumn colors on the trees, and hoped to recreate them well.

I began as I usually do, deciding the background. I used plain white cotton for the center part that will be completely covered, and ...

Shed decor! from Stitchin' Therapy

Yep, Sir Old Man came thru in time, actually ahead of time for the birthday gift.   Mr. Red Cardinal was painted and sealed from the weather for his permanent location.

I tried not to nag or pester him to get it installed.  I was really patient, or at least I pretended to be.

The barn sign was added to the newly painted garden shed.  The perfect finishing touch to add a bit of a bright spot to the shed.  I love glancing thru the window of the sun room or the sewing room and seeing the bright red.  Makes me ...

Gray and white barn from Quilt in Progress

This was the next chosen barn to recreate. The beige fabric with small flowers is supposed to be snow on gravel. For the roof of the barn I used a white-on-white fabric with similar flowers, in order for it to show a little different from the sky. I omitted some details from the photo I found on the internet, but took the time to stitch the barn boards.

Future blocks will include churches and two covered bridges that I had known in my childhood. Any suggestions for great blocks for this quilt? I’m still collecting photos.

I’ve begun ...

New Favorite from Quilt in Progress

I think that will happen a lot.

So far, as I have finished each barn block it has become my favorite. I love the details, even the fussy tree limbs and the fence.

I start with the printed picture, and this one was somebody’s painting. I dug through my box of fabrics and came up with what I wanted to use. There is a stone wheel in the picture that I did not add to the block, as well as another tree in the distance, and the star on the barn. If I had any fabric with a gold ...

The dormant barn quilt from Quilt in Progress

It happens too easily, if I put away a project, it goes out of my mind as well. No memory. Some quilters call them WIPs, (works in progress) and some call them UFOs (unfinished objects). Either way, the blocks, fabrics, and planning all stayed in a box from 2011 until recently.

You can see posts about the process at the beginning, and the first finished block. Now that I’ve gone back to find the posts, I was irresponsible, to say the least! Only two posts?

I had 3 finished blocks when I pulled them from the box, and one ...

Late January in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

Look what bloomed in my garden this week!!!  I have a barn quilt now, made completely of ceramic tiles.  It is huge, 48 inches square.  My Sweet Babboo has been working on this literally for months.  He had to find a tile place willing to sell him just a few tiles in a bunch of colors, then get some of them cut on the diagonal.

The block pattern he used is my Tango block.  He researched how to mount the tiles, then made a frame and set the tiles on a backer board in the basement.  Finally, he ‘grouted’ the ...

Thanksgiving and Stitching, etc. from Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving.  It was just hubby, our oldest son and me for Thanksgiving.  We still ate well.

our Thanksgiving feast

I've been busy stitching even though I don't have much to show to prove it.

The ladies ministry at church hosts an ornament exchange each December.  The lady in charge of decorating decided that we needed matching table runners as part of the decorations for the tables and I was drafted to make them.  She provided the white fabric with the gold ornaments, another lady provided the batting and I provided the ...

Barn Quilt in the Middle of Nowhere. from The Bearister Quilter

My sister was recently on vacation in Montana and sent me a photo of a barn, along the road, stating that it needed a quilt. Looking at the photo, which is below, I agreed with her.

Unedited photo that was sent to me

I decided to give it one of my own quilts to adorn it. This quilt pattern, which I am developing, is called Modern Rainbow. I think it's an improvement on the barn! Wouldn't it be wonderful to be traveling down the road, in the middle of nowhere, and find this barn with a gorgeous quilt ...
